Camperdown Academy is accredited by the AOGPE as a school of the Orton-Gilligham instructional and training program.
Camperdown Academy is a unique school designed to meet the needs of the student with dyslexia. Individualized Orton-Gillingham instruction, multi-sensory classroom teaching, and attention to developing the talents of the child with dyslexia form our primary goals in educating our students.
Camperdown provides a unique educational environment where children are encouraged to dare to be great. The school promotes a common-sense approach to education that focuses on developing a child's organizational skills, provides feedback to ensure topic understanding and immediate correction of errors, and emphasizes interactive communication. Because self-advocacy and confidence building are as important to a child's education as academic achievement, all students are taught the rewards of overcoming obstacles. Camperdown is a community where individual actions impact others. Morale and discipline are central to unity; therefore, each student is held responsible for his or her individual actions as well as the class' collective actions.
The Camperdown faculty believes a constructive school environment that promotes positive beliefs is essential to a successful education. We encourage students to understand their individual talents, learn from their mistakes, value quality and perseverence, proceed at their own speed, seek feedback, and realize that a consistent effort is the cornerstone of success. The overriding goal of every professional at Camperdown Academy is to instill in all students the belief that they do not need to be brilliant to be successful, but they must have an insatiable hunger to achieve to the best of their abilities, to believe in themselves, and to overcome discouragement.
